Easy Ways To Make Your New House Feel Like Home

Posted in Tips & Guides on by

Moving into a new property is a big step to take. Whether it's a diminutive apartment or your dream country pile, we're likely to want to put our stamp on our new property as quickly as possible. Once your house feels more like a home, you'll begin to truly settle in and you can then get on with life.

This blog is packed with easy tips to help you get settled into your new home quickly.

Make a house a home

As Ikea says, "It won't feel like home, until it feels like you" so many of our tips centre around personalising your new home to give it a vibe that makes it feel like home to you. What's homely to one person, might not be the same as for the next person, but broadly speaking, following our tips will help you get settled in no time!

Prioritise Cosy Comfort

Being, warm, cosy and comfortable will help you transition into life in your new home. Get your favourite linen on the bed, cover the sofa in cushions and throws and make sure you know how to use the central heating (especially if its winter) so you can ensure your home is warm and toasty.

Don't Leave Personal Possessions Packed Away

Although moving is tiring and unpacking everything can take many weeks if not months, the sooner you can unpack and place familiar possessions around your new house, the more normal it will feel.

To help facilitate this personalisation, before you move, ensure items like photographs, ornaments, house plants etc. are all packed away in accessible boxes that are well marked and easy to locate when you want them.

Make Your Mark

One of the lovely things about a new home is that it gives you the opportunity to really put your mark on a place. If you've been used to renting in the past, finding yourself with the freedom to decorate as you wish can be liberating.

Don't stretch yourself too thin, but the sooner you can redecorate to your taste, get your curtains and blinds up and any internal renovation work started, the quicker you'll be in a home that feels like it reflects your style and meets your needs.

Bring In The New

A new home is a perfect opportunity (excuse?) to update furniture and appliances. Whether it's something functional like a new washing machine or a perfectly indulgent garden hot tub, now could be the ideal time to upgrade or treat yourself to something you need or have wanted.

The sense of having everything you need, of being cosy and safe underpins a greater sense of wellbeing and we hope that your new home will bring you all of those things and more.
